If the jeweler does not inform her or him of all possibilities and choices and yes potential problems to each device (For he is the expert in his field just as a doctor in medicine, so an amount of faith is placed accordingly) he is negligent in his position as consul. |
If the wearer of the final product looses the ring or suffers the repeated daily stress of fear of loss. They may feel after the finely delivered speech that the jeweler told them (or in the case of the Ford Motor Company how wonderful their car the Pinto was) on the merits and security of the device that it is their fault that they are having problems with the ring. If the jeweler is unaware of the differences in products available and their potential problem (or as Ford was aware and did not inform the dealerships as it was cheap and very profitable to have an exploding car when hit from behind) he or she risks loosing good customers (Ford's current situation) as they return for adjustments and most importunately reconsider purchasing or asking their loved one to acquire that lovely piece in the showcase. Further to take a chapter out of the counter culture of the 1960's, or "alternative" as they say today…"If you know..Then you must Tell !!!" or "If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem."
